Entries this day: debating-between-hugo-and-middleman logistical-oops met-aina nice-things-about-japan ted-got-out,-and-jennie-too.. 日本語を勉強しました debating between hugo and middleman 15:29 Monday 06 April 2015 JSTI'd like to use Hugo because it's faster and places my sample unity games exactly as I would like, but it gives a 404 on the all Japanese filenames I've been creating recently. Bah. I wonder if that's a simple fix. I sure don't want to cobble/clobber my filenames to fit its whims. I'd like to use Middleman except it's slower, and puts the unity files in a logistical oops 18:47 Monday 06 April 2015 JSTGotta make an hour phone call tonight, but I don't have my phone charger with me. D'oh! Bought one at the conveni. permalinkmet aina 18:01 Monday 06 April 2015 JSTMet a young woman named Aina (愛奈) today while wandering around Akihabara taking some video for a guy on Fiverr. She approached me with a small pamphlet, and I had time to spend chatting so I said HI. She said we can go on a date, and I resisted teasing her, "oh so you'll be my girlfriend?" and asked what kind of date? Like go to dinner or karaoke.. I asked her name and she said Aina. I asked if her first kanji means "love" and she was like, "oh no love hotel or anything (for our "date")." Oh no no sorry for misunderstanding; I mean your kanji.. Does it mean "love" and she said yes and we chatted a bit. She lives in Kawasaki as well! Down on Nambu Line a few stops from Kawasaki. Interesting! She's 21 so she was 9 when I came to Japan. Wow. permalinknice things about japan 18:23 Monday 06 April 2015 JSTWhile walking toward my Japanese class, I spotted a wallet in the street. Inside featured keys, some change, some loyalty cards (including the owner's name), and a SUICA (prepaid train card). Stuff that he/she could replace but would be a pain to do so. I took it to the nearest police station and didn't give them my info, though the officer made a point of calling an English speaker to explain my rights: I could request(?) a reward for having returned it. (Not sure if I can request a reward or just be eligible for one if the owner offered.) If it had been loaded with cash, I may have opted to give them my infos, but not in this case. That'd be more trouble than it's worth. THEN, I went to buy a snack at the conveni(ence store). I paid with the equivalent with a $100 bill and the guy gave me my change without blinking an eye: 9850 yen. Then he left my $100 on the counter while he walked over to get the snack from the hot box thing. Hahaha. I'm sure there's five million cameras everywhere, but still. I took a pic. (though I don't have internizzle access to upload it atm *) (* atm = at the moment) permalinkted got out, and jennie too.. 22:19 Monday 06 April 2015 JSTI apparently left the sliding glass door unlocked yesterday; Ted opened it and got outside. He hasn't come back, though we've seen him on the balcony opposite ours. Jennie and Ted usually sleep in the bed with Lin, and sometimes with me, but last night Jennie slept in the bed reserved for cats. And today when ママ came home, Jennie bolted out the door, looking for Ted, I'm sure! Lin texted me tonight, saying Jennie got out. Lin's pretty sad and worried, but she's never had cats before. I'm on the way home so I'll find out soon the latest feline antics! permalink日本語を勉強しました 07:19 Monday 06 April 2015 JSTThere are probably errors in the Japanese notes below!

Monday class
Class was fun today, though I was on a phone call until 30 minutes after class started. I did a mini presentation on bluebonnets, saying maybe 5 sentences, including "I'm Rob from Texas," and "I have no idea" Spoke at length with いのさん (井野さん?) after class about bitcoin (I'm wearing my bittippers shirt) and tried to explain how it all works, why it's valuable, how btc are dispersed, how I got bitcoins, and about micropayments, including /r/bittippers, etc. permalink |
