Entries this day: Day_Three_news White_Day_in_Japan Day Three news 8:08am JST Monday 14 March 2011 (day 14964) Train lines are largely stopped in Tokyo; rolling power outages have been temporarily canceled because electricity consumption was lower than expected. Some people are leaving Tokyo (including my housemate Soness, if she can get a ride to the airport. Yesterday she got a ticket to New Zealand to see her boyfriend for a week.) I think the news just said all Shinkansen (bullet trains) are stopped in Tokyo and north of Tokyo. Some cities up north have been destroyed by tsunami. This is being called a 1000 year earthquake. The tsunami came inland farther than any in 1100 years. Nice record keeping, Japan! Apparently, looking at the series of earthquakes along the fault, they are coming closer to Tokyo. Some people are predicting a 7.0 earthquake close to Tokyo within 3 days (I heard last night, so 2.5 days.. ?) Listening to my angels, I get the "all clear" signal, so I'm staying. I'll stay in touch. permalinkWhite Day in Japan I just went to the store and though packed with people, everyone was orderly, and, most interestingly, almost all the lights were off in the store. I only needed to buy cat food, but I bought a bag of kitten food for me, in case I really want a good story! I've got lots of people food already, and still have a tub full of clean water. I remembered I needed to buy some chocolate for the woman who works at the cleaners (not where they clean clothes, but just like an intake shop from where they send clothes off to be cleaned). I picked up my suit on Valentine's Day and she gave me chocolate. There wasn't a great selection at the conveni, but I got her some and presented it today. She seemed surprised and happy. :-) permalinkprev day next day |
