10:34 AM Kristen: How do you feel about giraffes?
 me: I love giraffes!
Especially if they are named by you.
 Kristen: Me too. Just checking.

SVN

4:04pm JST Wednesday 23 April 2008 (day 13909)

I had had the great idea of versioning all the image files for our website, but it just clicked that these depend on the DB, and therefore on the working copy. Each working copy will have a different set of images, so I can't just put them all in the same repository. Or at least I don't know how.

SO, I copied the image directory to /tmp/, svn removed the image dir from ~, then used two sweet commands: find and xargs to kill all the .svn directories from within the image directory tree (about 60 different dirs)

find . -name .svn | xargs rm -rf

4:12pm JST

Hmmm. I made the change in a branch, and now I need to make the same change in the trunk (cause if I merge it back, I know it will just kill the images directory).

But what I don't know is how subversion will handle two identical merges. I guess it should work well enough. Nothing else to do but try it.

Tickets to Hong Kong!

8:21pm JST Wednesday 23 April 2008 (day 13909)

Ami and I got tickets to Hong Kong for June! Hong Kong is way cheaper than flying to Macau, so we'll just fly to HK and ferry to Macau.

VOIP with Ma

10:54pm JST Wednesday 23 April 2008 (day 13909)

Tonight after getting tickets to Hong Kong, Ami and I headed home for dinner and so I could catch my mom on Skype for an hour of connection thanks to fiber, VOIP, and countless other technologies with which we are blessed.

I felt really loved when I pulled out Uncle Cow to show Ma and Ma was like, "Uncle Cow!" Wow wow wow Ma reads my site and pays attention!

Great to talk to Ma; I encouraged her to put an animal on a wiki on the fly2.nu network, and she told me about the latest haps in her life, including new screened porch, dental fun, choir practice, yoga, and plans for the summer (GA, which will be held in a Port Authority, requiring ID to be shown on each entrance).

great times with Ami!

11:10pm JST Wednesday 23 April 2008 (day 13909)

Hung up with Ma and then played with Ami for just a couple of minutes before she had to bicycle home. I love playing kids' games with her; I'm always hiding or pretending to hide in various dark corners, and trying to surprise her in all variety of ways. Today, as she went outside, I hid behind the door on the inside (there's windows in the entry so I had to crouch), and held the door unlatched so I could stealth quietly out after her as she rode away.

I ended up bursting out of the door and quietly, "rar!" so as not to alert the neighbors, and then a few more hugs and kisses before she left.

"Okay, bye," and she would take off and I would follow her like an attached puppy, and then she goes, "go home!" as toward a puppy who simply doesn't know it's being scolded. So funny!
