Fred

1:51pm JST Tuesday 6 March 2007 (day 13495)

Super longer than expected chat with Fred this morning trying to figure out how to make flash rotate an object around an arbitrary point. I may end up solving it by putting my movie clip inside a movie with the registration point where I want it to rotate. I think I just thought of a way to do that without adding any apparent complexity to the objects. I was hesitant to do it before because I've been taping together with bits of code this whole thing that is only staying intact by luck and grace.

I don't have the chat available right at this moment, but I may put it online later.

Not late

1:55pm JST Tuesday 6 March 2007 (day 13495)

As I was chillfully eating lunch, I looked up and was all, "oh shit!" when I saw to what time it had gotten. If I had to start at 2pm today, I'd be late. I start at 2:20.

Work

11:04pm JST Tuesday 6 March 2007 (day 13495)

Tough day today, though not as tough as it could have been. I started at 2:40 due to a level check no-show after being scheduled to start at 2:20. No cancellations, no late students after that, but a 20 minute break at 7:40 to 8pm.

at home

11:22pm JST Tuesday 6 March 2007 (day 13495)

Back at home now watching Michael play God Of War, a pretty visually and aurally exciting game; I wouldn't play unless it were a full body suit immersion game where I can climb and jump and do all sorts of fun things. That would be pretty cool, actually. The suit could have feedback mechanism to make it feel like I was climbing, or to make me actually use strength to make a difference. Would be really cool exercise.

But just pushing buttons? Like on a keyboard? No way. Not for me, thanks!

oaxaca report back in olympia

##07:58 Tuesday 06 March 2007

Hello Family and Friends...

I am back in the states after my 7 month trip to Southern Mexico where I spent mid July until December learning from and photographing the incredible uprising occurring in Oaxaca followed by two months in Chiapas. In Olympia this week, through photos, video clips, and stories, I hope to share the spirit and creativity of the teachers strike turned full scale popular rebellion that managed to take control of the city for multiple months demanding the resignation of the corrupt state governor, Ulises Ruiz Ortiz. My presentation will cover the reality that led to the uprising, the media and government building takeovers, the 1,800 neighborhood barricades, the formation of the Popular Assembly of the Peoples of Oaxaca (APPO), and the brutal repression and assassinations of movement members at the hands of paramilitaries and police. Witnessing this diverse movement in Oaxaca has left me truly inspired and re-energized. In the face of grave government repression the people of Oaxaca are continuing this struggle and in great need of international solidarity.

For those of you in Olympia my presentation will occur twice this week...
