Entries this day: Environmental_awareness Heidies_at_diesel.com Work Environmental awareness 11:49am JST Friday 26 January 2007 (day 13456) It took me long enough to figure out, but I took my plate down to Lawson's (the convenience store) on the first floor of our building. They got a bakery out of which flows pizza, muffins, pigs in blankets, etc, all of which are pretty delicious, if a bit(!) high priced. (200 yen for slice of pizza) Most people who buy food from that bakery get everything individually wrapped in plastic, and then all of those bags put into a bag. That amount of waste seems unecessary to me, so I refused the outer bag. Then, I realized that the paper-board trays would be even better for the environment. Paper is more easily recyclable, doesn't produce carcinogens if burned, and is easier to produce than plastic. Then, I realized I can *re-use* the paperboard tray the next day, so I just left it here next to my computer, and headed down with it a few days in a row. Perhaps 2 or 3 trays saved that way. But today: I took my own plate down. It's reusable, washable, dishwasher safe, and uses *no* extra resources. permalinkHeidies at diesel.com 1:42pm JST Friday 26 January 2007 (day 13456) The two Heidie's, and the Juan broadcasting live from their hotel room via diesel.com were obnoxiously loud a bit earlier, and got a call from the hotel manager. Heidie answered at first all like, "well, our neighbors have been really loud; they're really annoying," and "well it's not our problem if they want to have a romantic newlywed evening," or some such. They went back to grinding signs (was it an industrial shredder? totally loud as shit!) and then the manager called back "I'm really sorry; yes; thank you; have a good night; okay; thank you" totally shmoozing.. but after that they seemed to be a bit quieter. Her voice sounded pretty terrible; she was definitely sick. I had bought some chocolate at the conveni to share with her, as a joke after she asked me to get something in Kagoshima for her. I was going to ball all, "ta-da!" and give her chocolate which had the label of the conveni, and I'd claim it was from Kagoshima. Anyway, she called in, and I called back, and Reiko (receptionist) was not impressed. "wah wah wah wah wah wah" don't call students while at work; this is a professional job; you can call after hours; image of the school is at stake, etc. Hmmm. I hadn't thought about that. Anyway, Ami is scheduled for a lesson with me today; perhaps I'll remember to buy some chocolate to try the fake Kagoshima gift gag. permalink |
