AM yellow fever

7:25am IST Thursday 27 October 2005

I need to get a yellow fever inoculation. I suspect I will have time in a waiting room.

11:25am IST Thursday 27 October 2005

Plenty of time. I met a couple who told me upon what lists to write my name and where to go, etc. They are traveling to India for as many as 6 months, but "it could be 1 hour" if they hate it. I remembered the stories Carla told us, but I don't know in what cities she had the most trouble.

I saw the first nurse / doctor person who recommended various injections given my itinerary, but I was like, "just gimme da yellow fever shot," so she crossed out everything else.

I went quickly to the next room to pay and got a ticket #138 so I can get my shot. Now Serving thing is on #89 now.

People are generally in quiet moods slash good spirits; there seem to be no complaints happening. Lots of waiting, though.

12:27pm IST Thursday 27 October 2005

People are beginning to get antsy; the clinic "closed" at 11am, but there are 30+ people waiting with numbers, and various people keep ducking their heads in to see the progress, then leaving again.

Now Serving #94. So it's taken 1 hour to do 5 people, and there are rumors that some guys socially engineered their way in with ticket number #110.

I'm a bit hungry, but not as antsy as some of the rest of the group. I've got time, but wonder how this will all be resolved.

1:21pm IST Thursday 27 October 2005

Now there are about 19 people here and Now Serving is on #105. It's been increasing a bit more quickly.

Some people in the waiting area have numbers after mine, though I haven't done a full survey.

1:22pm

Oh my gosh Now Serving #106 already.

2:32pm

Now Serving #124!

I am sitting next to a woman who will travel to India soon - she will be there for up to six months. I'm impressed that her first journey out into the world will be a solo adventure for so long.

We traded a few words of Hebrew for Japanese, but I have forgotten the Hebrew. She says the Japanese word for good morning is too long.

Hmph. This computer can't type in Hebrew script.

3:24pm IST Thursday 27 October 2005

The last part went super quickly with numbers being skiipped like bad movies in a rental shop. I zipped in, got my shot, got out, waited for my friiend who was #144, but right after me in actuality. She got Malaria somethiing and something else.

Headed home now.

Home to the Faisal.

PM chatting

10:37pm IST Thursday 27 October 2005

How high a compliment from Salvador who said simply, "you look very peaceful," after we made eye contact across the room. I assured him I've been having a great day and explained it's my 13,000th day, and explained what I meant by that.

Big surprise when Marco said he had just done his own days old calculation just last month!

I gave him high five twice as he described basically the exact reasoning I've given for why it's cooler to celebrate 500 days instead of years.

We three guys shared stories about travel and stuff and everything was quite balanced conversationally and it was all just really great.

At the end, left with a happy feeling, I reflected back on what had happened and laughed at myself inside for being so slow to come to the simple realization, like Homer Simpson wondering how to acquire more peanuts using money.

If I get off my computer and talk to people, I may have enjoyable conversations!

I was like "das coo' bro; I be sendin' her an email an' shit"

An he goes "aight yo, peace"

and we hung up.

I sang Oh Canada yesterday.

Some of the above stories are embellished.

Some planning experts fear that if developers get their way, New Orleans will be reincarnated as a bland, soulless shell of a once-great southern city.

Katrina’s Displaced Move to Defend New Orleans from Elite Visionaries

Earlier, I surmised New Orleans could be raised like Galveston was back in the day. Now I realize there is one significant difference in the two situations. Galveston was a really wealthy city at the time of their hurricane. New Orleans was/is not.

I was hoping to hook up a game of Silent Football tonight, but it didn't happen, and I think I've figured out why. There have been new people rocking into the Faisal, and as the new bonds are formed slash old friendships are reunited, people would rather chat with their peeps than play a strange but funny new game that requires a bit of concentration slash distraction from the basics of forming friendships.

Silent Football is a Deeper Sharing game.

2:20am

I plan to get up at ohgod thirty and head out to Tel Aviv and start the visa acquisition process for my Brazilian visa.

I wonder if they will expect me to run around West Bank without a passport while they process it?? That seems quite impossible; we'll see how it goes.
