1000 feet closer to space

I love the idea of a space elevator. Or fifty around the globe. How big of a ribbon will they have to be????

Bicycle

11:36am JST Tuesday 27 September 2005

Niveen says I should bring my bicycle. I was surprised to get a reply from her so quickly after I sent my Rob Update last night. I *thought* I had some outstanding questions to her, or at least thought the email-hot-potato was on her side of the internet.

Indecision

11:27am JST Tuesday 27 September 2005

Yarg. How embarassing to be gripped by indecision and fear of talking to people or maybe fear of asking for help...

On the way to Kawasaki, I thought I was late and texted /¥È¥â to let her know. Turns out I wasn't late, and even had enough time to hit the restroom, barely. I needed a place to hang my suit (I am bringing it to her house for safe keeping while I'm in Palestine) so I had to wait. I kept thinking, "I could go ask someone if I can leave my suit with them..." because there were a few vendors with tables in the station lobby, and even one cat selling ties, so a suit wouldn't even look too out of place.

But I kept waiting and then gave up cause I was about to miss the train that would get me there on time. Then I saw the handicapped-access restroom and was like, "naw," and headed to the train, and then was like, "yeh," and headed back to the restroom.

I hung my suit on one of the plentiful handles.

I missed the train by about 5 seconds.

Lunch with Tomoko

11:38am JST Tuesday 27 September 2005

In about 2 minutes I'll be 10 minutes late, meeting Tomoko for lunch.

2:28pm

We chowed at a lovely pasta place with free bottomless drinks with every order. Orange juice, other juice, tea, coffee, etc. We were both stuffed and couldn't finish both dishes.

She had mentioned some time ago that she needed some help with a website, so I thought we might do that today, but she did not. I'm supposed to come back to Kawasaki tomorrow to see Star Wars 3 with Hitomi, so I called her to see if she wanted to change to today. She did.

Met Hitomi

4:33pm JST Tuesday 27 September 2005

I'm at Starbucks with Hitomi now. While waiting for her to meet me for the movie (which starts at 8:50pm, so there's plenty of time), I sought a wireless internet access point I could use to download the thumbnails of pictures I already have on my site.

Hitomi says:

¤³¤ó¤Ë¤Á¤Ï¡Á¢ö
º£Ì롢ϩÉð¤È¥¹¥¿¡¼¥¦¥©¡¼¥º3¤ò´Ñ¤Þ¤¹¡£
¤ï¤Ã¡ª³Ú¤·¤ß(^^)
º£¡¢¥¹¥¿¡¼¥Ð¥Ã¥¯¥¹¤ÇÏ©Éð¤Î¥Ô¡¼¥¹¥Ü¡¼¥È¤Î¼Ì¿¿¤òÁª¤ó¤Ç¤Þ¤¹¡£

Good job to Hitomi typing that on my keyboard, which is differently arranged than her keyboard, and differently labled than itself. The keys are labeled in dvorak layout, but I quit trying to type that way about the time I got started transcribing at Kellie's early this month.

5:00pm

Wow! Hitomi has a cool little red BMW 1:32 scale remote control model. The remote control is built into a watch!

We've been digging through pictures on my computer, comparing them to what is already on my site, to see which ones still need to be uploaded.

7:18pm

Just told Hitomi a bit about Chez jumping. Showed pictures of my old days back in the US, including two of Chez.

I started to tear up when I saw the pics. I miss you guys so so much. I think I should put the pics on my site, if they're not there already.

Time to chow and then scope the movie.

8:06pm

Went to Kawasaki BE for some cheap foodage with plenty of plastic wrapped around it. I wonder wonder wonder how much longer the world will keep producing this much waste.

We're chillin' in TOHO cinemas now (9th floor of Kawasaki DICE building), and I'm variously getting three wireless signals. Two of them require passwords, but the third does not. However, it's not consistent enough for me to actually get connected. I would pay $50 or so for a handheld device that would tell me if I could get free wireless broadband wherever it was.

$100 if it could give me username and passwords required for 15% (*) of the password-protected networks it found.

(*) I figure that many systems use super-weak or even default passwords.

Matt from Pb called me! He's in charge of the 52nd Voyage, and I'm interested in going. He asked if I can come in to the office and have a chat with him, which I've arranged for Friday before I chow dinner with ¤Ô¤í¤ê, a friend of Pb peeps via the 47th voyage.

I'm sure he wouldn't have me come in if the answer was flat "no," so I am optimistic!!

The only bad thing about being on 52nd voyage is that would probably reduce my chances of being on 53rd voyage, for which Katt is applying.

Star Wars III

11:29pm JST Tuesday 27 September 2005

Woah. Star Wars III. Check it.

At the very end, Hitomi was like, "that's *it*??" before she remembered there are three more movies to go. She saw the first two episodes this past week, but hasn't seen the real first three.

12:10am JST Wednesday 28 September 2005

I just realized that the stuff I've written about Star Wars III would be good for my blog. It can hold my thoughts about external stimuli and my journal can be my thoughts on internal stimuli.

I kinda hate "having a blog." I always point out that I had my journal before blog was a word when people say, "you have a blog," and I'm like, "actually it's a journal, and I've had it before blog was a word."

But now, it appears, I have a blog.

just getting started

1:11am JST Wednesday 28 September 2005

Wow. I just walked home and am full of love and energy. Something about Star Wars, and the idea of choosing my fate and choosing the non-dark side of the force (what color is it?)... Everything is great.

Tonight I plan to:

  1. contact Niveen

  2. finish transcribing my tapes from P.B.

  3. upload a shload of pictures (or get it started)

  4. begin the process of finding out what I need in Palestine

  5. mentally begin releasing the rest of my stuff

  6. contact my credit card company to tell them fo sheezy I will be in Palestine and not to kill my card for charges over there.

4:22am JST Wednesday 28 September 2005

Okay, so far I have:

  1. emailed Niveen and asked her questions

  2. finished transcribing my tapes from P.B.!!!!

  3. contacted my credit card company to tell them fo sheezy I will be in Palestine and not to kill my card for charges over there.

At the end of the call she was like, "okay, thank you for your call and good luck [in Palestine]."

  4. begun to upload a shload of pictures (or get it started)

And that's enough for me for now, I think.

This seems to herald a day where the family physician (or anyone) can do a quick test to see if we have cancer. Totally kick ass.
