Entries this day: AM Ultimate haha singularity AM 1:06pm JST Sunday 25 September 2005 Last night and this morning I worked on my 404 processor, making it look for files in my webspace with the same filename, so when it emails me about the 404, it can tell me if there's anything comparable. I didn't work on transcribing today; I had hoped to finish the two tapes before ultimate, but now it's time to go go go. permalinkUltimate 7:53pm JST Sunday 25 September 2005 Big fun at ultimate today! I arrived before anyone else, and lay down on a bench, wondering if they would ever show up. At one point I looked up to see some non-Japanese people walking sorta toward the field and assumed they must be ultimate players. They walked past where I was relaxing and I got up to see if in fact they were here for ultimate and I suddenly saw they were headed to where all the ultimate peeps had already started playing! Awesome! We enjoyed great play despite great wind from the typhoon. I was impressed by the incredible catching skills demonstrated by Julie, who has been in Japan for a month or two, and plans to be here untl December. She played disc in university in Oregon, and is here now studying Japanese. Adam and Jason had some equally money catches as well, but I must be a bit sexist; I wasn't as impressed. A few people came late: Koki, Sam, Adrien, Joanne. They played supadupaly. permalinkhaha 11:10pm JST Sunday 25 September 2005 Haha - I'm watching the news about cities wiped by hurricane Rita. The police in Port Aurthur have moved their headquarters to a hotel, and have made a makeshift jail next to the bar. So now the joke is, "if you loot, you'll be taken to the Holiday Inn." permalinksingularity 1:27am JST Monday 26 September 2005 The Singularity will represent the culmination of the merger of our biological thinking and existence with our technology, resulting in a world that is still human but that transcends our biological roots. There will be no distinction, post-Singularity, between human and machine or between physical and virtual reality. If you wonder what will remain unequivocally human in such a world, it's simply this quality: ours is the species that inherently seeks to extend its physical and mental reach beyond current limitations. I added the emphasis above. How can there be no distinction between physical and virtual reality? This was taken (without permission) from a PDF I downloaded from singularity.com Here is a brief article on it. permalinkprev day next day |
