Do today

11:40am JST Wednesday 02 February 2005

Last weekend, I wrote down my goals/chores and did them. Before I wrote them, they seemed insurmountable, maybe in that I didn't have a grasp on what was important.

To do today:

  1. Do laundry using hot water
  2. Buy groceries
  3. Eat
  4. Go through the (short) stack of papers on my desk
  5. Ask Richard or Shoko to help me put knotboards for sale online
  6. Go to Shibuya to see the guy who's riding around the world on his bike

Yikes; gotta hurry! The Shibuya thing is at 7pm!

12:36pm

Okay. I got the laundry started (hot water in both washers), and I even took my suit to the cleaners.

Next: groceries (cause I'd rather not do it)

1:09pm

Shopping finished; cooking finished; eating Roboyaki in progress.

2:00pm

Eating finished; dishes washed; laundry put away.

Richard is about to help me get my stuff listed on Yahoo Auction.

Dream

11:51am JST Wednesday 02 February 2005

Oh man my dream was terrible!

Walking with some new friends over a bridge; I was walking near (not with) the girlfriend of another guy; she was a bit ahead of me and she didn't notice steps were not where steps should be and she fell (splat), into highway traffic (smoosh), to her certain death.

Oh God I was mortified (*)! I looked to my friends for some assurance that they saw it; I hadn't pushed her; she just fuckin' didn't look and she fell.

They agreed that I had not pushed her so then we were trying to comfort the boyfriend of the couple. My dad was there and I said, "my dad is a good counselor," so the guy talked to my dad.

(*) no pun intended

MSNbot

1:33pm JST Wednesday 02 February 2005

I get an email everytime there is a 404 error. Stupid msnbot sucks. It's the most frequent 404 causer of them all. I blocked it with robots.txt

To block msnbot in robots.txt:

User-agent: msnbot
Disallow: /

1:49am

Stupid MSNbot is still hitting my website even though I put up the robots.txt 12 hours ago. NO MSNBOT!

  • Got the first three done, but didn't do the stack of papers. Could hurry and work on that now. Neither Richard nor Shoko was able to get me completely hooked up with YahooAuction. I got registered, did yahoo wallet, entered credit card and all that shit, but there is one more field that they want me to enter and none of us knows what to put there. Crap.

But!!!! I've gotten much further. Though now Yahoo is going to charge me 294 yen per month for the premium edition of some bullshit; we couldn't find a way around it. Jerks.

    met Andrew

    1:42am JST Thursday 03 February 2005

Tonight Richard and I went to Shibuya and met Hitomi at The Pink Cow and got to see Alistair, the cat who is riding around the world on his bike. I got to meet him and got some good bits of advice: (1) though he had to scrap his plans, he had gain a lot of wisdom about how to do visas and stuff during all his planning. That knowledge was useful for him. (2) just do it.

On a more approachable level, I met Andrew, a guy who bicycles a lot around Japan. He is part of beejapan.com, an organization that encourages renewable living instead of throwing away as many plastics bags as humanly possible in a day. They will ride from the northern to southern tip of Honshu from August to October. If I'm still here, I might like to join them.

But he gave me the confirmation of what I had suspected: I can just get on TJ Bike and go. He said I need a bike bag to bring TJ Bike on trains, but he can suggest several cool places to go by train and then ride ride ride.

He's about to leave Japan, so he said he can sell me a lot of his old stuff cheaply. Awe.some.

    music man

At Shibuya station, we saw this incredibly talented musician who could play digeridoo or flute with circular breathing. He played digeridoo and drums at the same time. He played a bamboo jews harp. He throat sang Silent Night. He played finger piano and digeridoo at the same time. I got a video of him playing drums and dij.
