Dream

7:36am JST Wednesday 14 January 2004

Katie B-H and i were not allowed to meet, but we met anyway and were thinking of a code of sorts to send each other via text message that would tell us where to meet, but not be traceable by anyone else. "he wants to meet you" would mean "meet me at the Mickey Mouse statue (he)" and "she wants to meet you" would be "meet me at the Minnie Mouse statue (she)" and then we could add times or whatever to that.

Then KB-H turned into Fred and he was throwing rocks at a car in a most malicious manner I thought, but turns out he was trying specifically to hit a rock that was an answering machine that was currently taking a message by some woman we didn't know. She was a mom, "I don't know where my son is, but he was supposed to be at ____ but all I can find is his shirt with vomit on it." and some pretty scary stuff for real life.

I'm glad it was a dream.

There was a sandwich that had either been left out since last night or last week and I figured last night, but I still didn't want to eat it because it had lunch meat in it and I threw it away.

Work

7:29pm JST Wednesday 14 January 2004

What a wonderful opening of my day to find Carla at work; she was in a chipper mood and we played little teacher games like reading teacher comments and the other has to guess who wrote the comment. That's a game that she and Clayton apparently play. (I covered for Clayton today (who was in a commercial shoot today! WHAT??? I asked, and she's like, "yeah" and explained that he just signed up and he can turn down offers or go for it. Money dude, that's completely money) so I assume she plays that game with him)

Anyway, fun stuff and early lessons were gentle and good and I was reallly happy to get positive comments from the students I had. Guy and I switched one of our lessons so he wouldn't have man to man and I tried to position myself so I could see one of his students (ゆき) during the lesson. It's good I didn't have her; I would have been quite distracted.

I texted 裕子 as I went to lunch to invite her to voice room when I was to teach, but she replied that she had no voice tickets. Ah well.

During my very last lesson, あきな was in the next room with Andrew and two other students. He taught them "I'm mad at you," while I was watching her in the window reflection and allowing my student to choose lessons that he liked and I would give him a short summary of the lesson material. He requested #74 (none, any, some, every) and #64 (there's too many/much, there's not enough) and #70 (X is ___er than Y, X is the most ____/___est). After the lesson, I presented him with his level up 2 (given by Jon and Morag that day) and congratulated him and all that.

When I walked past Andrew's room, Akina goes, "I'm mad at you," and I'm like, "why?" playing along and she said "I can't tell you." and I thought she meant she didn't have the language, but she meant "I can't tell you" because she was mad that I didn't meet her at Nambu line after we had a man to man lesson some week-ish ago. Fuck. I was like, "I didn't know there was a meeting scheduled." or something. I'm sure that day she had said, "maybe we will see each other on the Nambu line," and I was like, "yup, maybe so," having no idea that she meant "let's meet tonight."

D'oh. The Japanese "maybe" strikes again.

a present from janette

8:28pm JST Wednesday 14 January 2004

When I came home today, janette was all, "okay, close your eyes," and I did and she made me lie down on the couch and she put a new quilt on me! She made me a quilt! Completely awesome with one solid blue print on one side and diamondy star patterns and string on the other side. She said she's also working on one with my old rally T-shirts.. Ouououououuu wow wow wow. I'm so so lucky.

And, she's all, "would you rather get presents before you go to work or after you come home?"

"More presents????"

"Well, if you were to get any more, from Fred, maybe."

"oh, of course. Um, after work."

EEEeeeeeeeeee!!!!!

janette and I splashed around in the bathtub, creating huge tidal waves of water gushing over the edge as we sat down. "I'm telling mom!!!" It was pretty funny. Hot water, too.

puzzle

12:00am JST Thursday 15 January 2004

Bill gave Fred a puzzle with 12 pieces.

An email from Fred about it:

So I got Bill's 12-piece puzzle together, happening across a few bits
of luck, seeing a few "ah ha"s, and muttering a few "you mother
fucker"s.

Then he hands me two more pieces.

Of course he knew all about your "18-piece" puzzle, and saw the
12-piece on display somewhere, and the guy says "If you get the
14-piece puzzle, you can hold two back and make the 12-piece one."
That, of course, was just too perfect to pass up.

He assures me fourteen is it, for real this time. I guess I'll
believe him, since he hasn't relly led me astray yet, just surprised
me.

But I'm going to leave that one alone a while and go back to messing
with yours.

Tonight I was able to figure out the geometry to his 14 piece puzzle and I nearly got it together; he helped me tweak a couple of pieces' positions and we got it. Smooth. I was really glad to have been the one to essentially solve it. Fred hadn't been able to solve it (okay, yes, he didn't really try according to the email above) so I was happy to get it. He's the puzzlin' smartypants of the family.

Fred and I have been up fucking around with trying to make dots work in java. We toyed with the idea of writing it ourselves, and glanced at a few different array structures to make it work and then he looked online for sourcecode and then I looked online for sourcecode and found a version of the game at http://www.5lab.co.uk/Squares.

Wrote the guy for the source code and he sent it, but Fred and I haven't been able to compile it on my machine. Fred is snoring away and I'm about to jump in bed.
