Entries this day: AM Walk lord_of_rings AM 8:54am CST Sunday 5 January 2003 Last night we watched the first half of Lord of The Rings on DVD, using my computer to play it. Janette joined us part way through, and went to bed before it was over. Josephine fell asleep during the movie. Sally and I made it through, though I was close to falling asleep a couple of times. (Sally here is YRUU Sally, not Sally in Cali) The movie was pretty good; my favorite character is still Arwen, though I wasn't as blown away by the scene where she conjured up the river horses to wash away the wraiths as I was when I saw it in the theater. Must be that the screen on my computer is 2 orders of magnitude smaller than a movie theater screen. And these speakers are an inch across. Sally had come over last night with Tanner and Josephine after they had dropped off Mikey and Tyler (I think I'm getting this correct). Last night when Janette, Josephine, and I dropped off Tanner at the bus station, we waited with him in line (Jack and others had apparently said this was the grossest bus station in the world, though Joel said only the one in Amarillo is worse. I went in barefoot anyway and found it not all that bad.) while he checked his bag. It was so crowded getting to the gates that we just saw him off as we headed for the exit. On our way back home we picked up some chinese food from a small restaurant with good food. permalinkWalk 6:12pm CST Sunday 5 January 2003 This morning Sally and I went for a walk to the lake and I discovered they had built new playground equipment on the top of the hill where previously there had been only two teeter totters and swings and maybe a something to climb on. The equipment is almost all new now, with some toys I hadn't previously seen. One is a bar with two lightbulb shapes hanging upside down. Handles on the lightbulbs allow people to hang from them, and there's a spring in them allowing some bouncing action. Not too exciting, but unique. Then they have a handle thing on wheels that one can hang and roll to the other side of the track (about 6 feet) but each end has a pneumatic thing to make it slow down vaguely more smoothly than just kang into metal or bonk into a rubber bumper. Walked along the slanted wall and saw the spillway (still spilling but rather shallow compared to some nights ago), then back toward home. Oh, I am surprised that I hadn't noticed until today that one of the jogging trails is built where railroad tracks used to be. It's so obvious that I'm surprised I didn't notice before. permalinklord of rings 6:21pm CST Sunday 5 January 2003 We watched the second DVD of first Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring today. Richard came over just as it was ending and I was all, "we just started this movie; we can rewind it if you want." permalink |
