Entries this day: Apartment_for_lease Practice amy bryn_ring Apartment for lease 10:57am CDT Monday 8 July 2002 I'm exploring different ways to advertise the availability of my apartment. I've advertised via my website, telling my friends, Houston Press, Houston Chronicle, and just today I made some two sided business cards to hand out to people. These are on light blue paper instead of yellow like my Adventure business cards. They'll be ready by 3pm today. I went to Whataburger to check in with the manager who does the hiring. He interrupted me soon after I said, "I turned in an application yesterday..." At first I thought he was just going to say, "Tuesday is my hiring day," which is what the employees had said yesterday. But he said something like, "I'm not even talking to anyone now; I'm going on vacation tomorrow, so come back in two weeks." I love the irony. In two weeks, I intend to be out of here. - - - - In another ironic twist, I got a call from Nate, who was one of the first people I called right after I lost my job. He apologized for not having called back sooner. I told him my availability had changed since no one called me back... He'll keep my resume on file in case he gets a contract that can be finished before I leave.
Practice 11:36am CDT Monday 8 July 2002 I'm sitting across the street from 1/4 Price Books. Traffic flows down Shepherd. Business suits and t-shirts and shirts with collars, and just now a cowboy hat, a taxi, a Fire Extinguisher van, a goatee in a truck, another collar shirt, ballcap driving a truck, and too many to mention them all. Mostly male drivers by a significant margin. 26 male and 7 female in the most recent batch of cars. In 22 minutes, 1/4 Price Book will open, and I'll offer my books to Larry to see if he can sell them. - - - - Larry arrived 30 minutes late, and he put up a sign that said he'll open at noon tomorrow. I talked to him a bit as he was writing the signs. He said he had been working on a big project and just needed to take a rest. I wonder what was the big project?? I blessed his choice to take a day off. I'll see him tomorrow around noon probably.
amy 4:41pm CDT Monday 8 July 2002 Hung out at Amy's house while she whipped together some design concepts for Kim Sawyer's websites. I was quite impressed with her agility in photoshop. "I feel like my grandmother watching me on the computer." "If it makes you feel any better, I did go to school for this." Actually, that does help. She pulled together a concept for my site as well. I think I can easily put an image here.
bryn ring 9:06pm CDT Monday 8 July 2002 Tonight during I-group, my friendship ring broke. That's one of the rings that Bryn and I traded at Plano Rally. I intend to give her part of it and me keep part of it. The ring had gotten bent and I was trying to bend it back into shape. The weak metal couldn't stand all that bendin'. Also during I-group, we welcomed Tom back into the group after he had checked out for some months to finish a different personal growth program. I enjoyed hearing his stories and describing the similarities and differences between I-group and the other. He told us another story that he experienced while driving past the construction on 59 near Shepherd. He saw a guy inspecting the construction site and saw it was me! He confirmed this by noting that I wore no shoes.... "that's Rob" was his final passing thought. Nice. - - - - After I-group, I gave some cards to Andrea, my ex-next-door-downstairs neighbor who moved down the hall from where she used to live. She reminded me that by the rules of the complex, I can't live here anymore since I make less than 3.5 times my monthly rent. Whoohoooo!! I'll talk to them tomorrow.
